Santa Marcelina School students plant seedlings

Planting Seedlings in the Brejinho Ecological Park: Educational and Sustainable Action by Santa Marcelina College Students.

Students from Colégio Santa Marcelina in Belo Horizonte took part in a seedling planting at the Brejinho Ecological Park. With this action, they helped plant around 60 trees in the São Francisco neighborhood. The planting was part of an educational project that focused on human actions and their impact on the global climate. The action also contributed directly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Stages of the Educational Project at Colégio Santa Marcelina and Its Contributions to the Environment.

The project was developed in three main phases, each of which was fundamental for the students to understand and apply sustainability concepts.

Research and Data Collection: Understanding Environmental Impact.

First, the students carried out detailed research into the impact of human actions on the environment. From there, they studied how human activities affect the Earth’s global climate.

Analysis and Planning: Sustainable Climate Strategies.

Then, after collecting the data, the students calculated the CO2 emissions, generated graphs and created an action plan. This plan involved planting saplings and other initiatives aimed at improving the urban environment and combating the effects of man-made actions.

Planting Seedlings: Practical Application of Environmental Concepts.

Finally, in the final phase of the project, the students applied the concepts they had learned. They planted 60 saplings in the Brejinho Ecological Park and put their knowledge of environmental impact and the importance of reforestation into practice.

Impacts of Planting Seedlings on Students and the Environment.

According to teacher Luiza Porto, the planting of seedlings had a significant impact. As well as contributing to the environment, it also raised the students’ environmental awareness. It also strengthened the development of socio-emotional skills and a sense of social responsibility.

The Future of the Initiative: Expansion of Sustainable Projects at Santa Marcelina College.

In 2024, new projects began to be developed. In this sense, it is hoped that Colégio Santa Marcelina’s approach will expand to other units. In this way, the initiative will further strengthen its commitment to sustainable development and environmental education.
