Socio-emotional Development at Santa Marcelina

Socio-emotional Development at Rede Santa Marcelina in 2023

Since the end of 2023, the Santa Marcelina School Network has been actively investing in the socio-emotional development of its students through the DAVIDA Program, which aims to improve not only emotional and social skills, but also goes beyond the national curriculum guidelines. As a result, more than 1600 students have already taken part and have become more confident, empathetic and prepared for the challenges of the future.

Structure of the DAVIDA Program

The program is divided into four phases, focusing on different age groups. Firstly, the “Life in Discovery” phase caters for children in Kindergarten. Next, “Life at Play” is aimed at students in the Early Years. Finally, “Vida no Rolê” (Life on the Roll) works with students in the final years of elementary school, while “Vida que Ilumina” (Life that Illuminates) covers secondary school students. Therefore, each phase is designed to meet the specific needs of the students, using interactive and playful approaches.

Project Methodologies and Activities

Educational Coordinator Aline Oliveira points out that the program’s activities are diverse and adapt to the different age groups. Thus, as Aline explains, “we run practical workshops, create scrapbooks and photo albums, promote conversation circles, lectures and use books, music and films”. In addition, the aim is to stimulate students’ socio-emotional development in a creative and effective way. In this sense, the students also take part in self-reflection activities, in which they have the opportunity to analyze their own emotions and attitudes, strengthening their self-perception.

Impact of socio-emotional development

According to Aline, the DAVIDA Program has a direct impact on students’ education, because it is through this program that students learn to express their emotions, reflect on their choices and value their potential. In addition, by focusing on socio-emotional development, the program prepares students to deal with life’s adversities. As a result, they become more resilient and able to make informed decisions, both in their personal and professional lives.

With the DAVIDA Program, Rede Santa Marcelina is reinforcing its commitment to comprehensive education. By prioritizing students’ emotional well-being, the network transforms the school experience, creating a learning environment that integrates academic teaching with emotional and social development. In this way, it prepares students to face the challenges of the modern world.
